Luxury Trips Over Montgomery County?

Rockville:   Just weeks before the 2014 midterm elections, The Washington
Post reported that the Maryland Board of Elections handed down a ruling
finding that Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett improperly used nearly
$10,000 in campaign funds for international luxury trips. Now, mere days
after re-election, Leggett promptly left the county and people he has been
elected and it paid to serve in favor of a 10-day stint in India.

County spokesman Patrick Lacefield said the trip is estimated to cost the
county about $40,000, including the expenses of two staffers from the County
Executive's office and the Department of Economic Development. Although
Leggett is paying his own expenses, one must wonder why the public servant
elected to serve the county is half a globe away from the citizens and tax
payers funding his paycheck. Further, Leggett has a history of misleading
the taxpayers with regards to how his international travels are actually
 funded.

Yet again, Leggett's poor economic leadership is flushing $40,000 of tax
payer money out of Montgomery County. Our kids remain in trailers, the
Silver Spring Transit Center remains a $120 Million dollar unfinished
construction disaster, and the community remains crippled by unrealistic and
unnecessary taxes. It just shows more evidence where Leggett’s priorities
lie - outside of Montgomery County and within his own personal travel
 agenda.
